Content (Articles, Reports, Webinars)
Continuing our current Research Focus "Strategic Alignment of IS and IT" which explores the sometimes challenging relationship between information services and information technology, we have published several useful articles:
- "Getting to Know You, Vendor Perspective" looks at things from the vendor's perspective. Robin Neidorf spoke to Brad Scher, CEO of Acquire Media, for his insight into what vendors are looking for in customers and how to better understand "matchmaking" from the vendor's perspective
- In "How Do You Ensure the Best Possible Relationship With Your IT Department?" Tina Reynolds shares her tips for gaining mutual understanding and evolving a better appreciation of departmental and organisation-wide pressures and deadlines
- In "Make It Easy for IT Colleagues to Work With You" there are some useful tips on how end-users can better communicate IT problems such as bugs, feature requests or a need for additional training or help
- Collaborative intelligence is an idea explored in "Working with People Who Think Fundamentally Differently to You" in which Scott Vine explains how it can be useful when working with peers in the IT department
- The task of managing people, especially when things get tough, is a skill that can require training and Shaida Dorabjee's "Managing Difficult People" reflects on the role of the manager and offers a quick guide to managing difficult people and situations.
For comprehensive and reputable UK market research, industry reports and company data, read Sophie Alexander's in-depth Product Review of Key Note. The review looks at some of the enhancements made to the product since we last reviewed it in early 2013 and details Key Note's coverage of companies and market sectors, including SWOT and PESTEL analysis.
If you need an affordable database for industry, country and consumer market research, read our Product Review of Research Monitor. Euromonitor's business reference database would be particularly useful for those users in smaller companies who may not need the depth of data and analysis available in other market research products.

Community
Our director of research, Robin Neidorf, was in London at the end of January and facilitated a Communities of Practice session, Step One to Alignment between IS and IT.
Future Communities of Practice include the following online teleconferences, all scheduled for the third Wednesday of the month:
- Make the Most of Your Organisation's Reporting Structure on 17th February - where you can learn more about the characteristics of success for your reporting structure and conduct further analysis of your own environment to better understand the practical steps you can take to strengthen your visibility and value
- Sources, Technology, Value - What You Can "Own" and What You Can Influence on 16th March will highlight examples which demonstrate successful "ownership" and "influence"
- The Information Team with "The Right Stuff" on 20th April describes what "the right stuff" looks like for robust and effective information teams.
Consulting
Robin's London trip also included several on-site consulting meetings with customers working on projects like:
- Productising service delivery: creating a flexible framework of standards that allows for custom enhancement
- Visibility and value of information expertise: identifying the "right" stakeholders, and then crafting a measurable plan to increase the visibility and value of information specialists.
