Based on preliminary results from our survey of information managers on current awareness:
- Fewer than 60% of respondents have completed a needs assessment on relevant technology in the past two years
- Fewer than 50% of respondents have completed a needs assessment on required content in the past two years.
If you're in one of those categories, your current awareness solution is likely out of date.
As we discussed in the recent Jinfo Webinar, "Why we keep talking about the news" (recording available to Subscribers), we're in a period in which:
- Technology to support improved current awareness has matured significantly
- Content providers have undergone major changes in inventory, focus and even business models
- Users are redefining what they want and need from a current awareness system.
Any one of those factors on its own would prompt a careful look at how you support your organisation with current awareness.
Taken together, they may well signal a revolution. We've seen (and worked with) information services that have dropped premium providers, added new providers, increased self-service, implemented new platforms, developed new access points and more.
In the current Research Focus, "Content and technology for current awareness", you'll find the reviews, case studies, comparisons, webinars and Community sessions to help you think differently about current awareness, its value to the business and its place in your menu of services.
For more hands-on help, consider Jinfo's Consulting services. Start by requesting a consultation interview; following the interview, we'll provide you with a benchmarking report comparing your situation to what the best information services do. You'll also get custom recommendations for next steps.
Complete the consultation request form now, and take 10 minutes to participate in the Jinfo Survey.
