"Staying informed and connected can be challenging even in a world of readily available information. If you are an expert that lives and breathes speciality information, finding the gems available outside your area can be challenging. That is why I love Jinfo's Tipples and happily share a few of my own go-to resources.
Here are My Favourite Tipples:
- Freepik: I recently revamped my website and during the course of that work my web designer shared with me some great tools for icons. This site is useful you are doing anything that requires icons for use in presentations or other marketing material.
- Product Hunt: When you are on the look out for useful apps, technologies and other products, this is a great resource. The site is organised by collections, categories such as Tech or Podcasts, and Topics. If you don't like to browse, the site offers a simple search option as well. You can follow categories and get alerted to new items and join the discussion about the products. This is a great place to find new apps.
- PinHawk Librarian Digest: This remains a critical resource for me. The Librarian Digest recently rolled out its Weekly Summary and this weekend reader resource is incredibly valuable for the days I miss the daily digest.
- Groups: To stay informed of local business events I rely upon two groups. Louisville Business First via LinkedIn and Louisville Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NEW). These groups keep me connected and informed and NEW is especially helpful in both networking and educational events. If you work from home, finding this type of community organisation can be invaluable for a productive work-life balance.
For fun:
- Rodale's OrganicLife: I'm getting back into gardening this year and so I'm reading this site with its sections on home, garden, health and cooking more often than ever.
An article in Jinfo which I found particularly interesting:
- As I continue to research how libraries measure and demonstrate value, I recognise that collaboration with organisational departments such as IT, marketing and business development is crucial. The article "Reflecting on the Jinfo Research Focus 'Strategic Alignment of IS and IT'" summarises the Focus into distinct areas of attention including stakeholder engagement, perhaps one of the most essential elements of any value conversation.
