Two short years on from the initial launch of ChatGPT, the big technology players have launched the latest tranche of products.
ChatGPT 4.5, Perplexity's Deep Research with chain-of-thought prompting and Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet all look set to maintain the AI hype cycle.
There is no doubt that the technology is impressive, but it is not perfect. Whilst it will get better, it still relies on the human in the loop – preferably an information manager!

News and AI - what's next and why pay?
On announcing our forthcoming Community session "News and AI - what's next and why pay?" (20th March 2025), one registrant has said:
"Perfect timing: explaining the nuances – of terms of use vs what's available on a platform vs.'Everything is free on the internet' attitude – is never-ending."
With this sentiment ringing in our ears, the session will be an opportunity for information managers to discuss this issue and strategise.

Mind the AI gap
Whilst there is immense enthusiasm for AI, there’s a critical gap in understanding how to use AI responsibly.
This set the tone for the conversation during last month's Community session.
Information managers discussed the need for thorough internal education, robust governance, and methodical tool evaluation.
One attendee remarked afterwards,"Everyone is trying to figure it out – suppliers/vendors, peers, stakeholders".
Catch up on the discussion, with our full report of the session in the new Jinfo report "How can information managers bridge the AI knowledge gap?".
A new outside investment in a vendor! A CEO's perspective
Private equity investments are a "red flag" for many information managers.
Indeed, I know some information managers who will actively seek to find new suppliers, rather than deal with difficult negotiations and higher prices.
At the end of last year, Northern Light secured external funding, for the first time in their history, from LoneTree Capital.
David Seuss, CEO of Northern Light, spoke to Jinfo about what this means for the company – how they intend to use the investment, and how it will impact their clients.
See the highlights of the conversation on our Blog, or in this Jinfo YouTube video.
The full interview can be watched in the Jinfo Webinar "What will new outside investment mean for Northern Light?".
