Content (Articles, Reports, Webinars)
Information staff often have a hard time relating to IT staff and Jinfo's current Research Focus, "Strategic Alignment of IS and IT", continues to explore this challenging relationship.
Since our last Subscription Update, Jinfo has published several insightful articles:
- Carrying out a needs analysis with key stakeholders and user groups is necessary when deciding what commodity-like information is needed in an organisation and the article "Have Your Identified Your Commodity Content?", based on a recent Jinfo webinar, highlights some practical steps you can take to achieve this. There's also a useful worksheet in "Needs Analysis Model for Commodity Content"
- How can business intelligence aid business development? Find out in Milan Dalal's article "Making the Most of Business Information to Win Work"
- Sally Roberts discusses "Making Sure the Right Experts are Involved in Decision-Making" and how to create a constructive meeting.
- Finally, read Robin Neidorf's report "Market Landscape - IT Industry Analysts", which focuses on Forrester, Gartner, IDC and Ovum and assesses each of their unique strengths as well as highlighting customer feedback on working with these firms.
Don't miss our latest product reviews:
- Cloud-based search tool EBSCO Discovery Service which provides access to an institution's entire collection via single, customisable entry point
- Questel ORBIT IP, one of a suite of online tools from Questel that allows competitive technological intelligence and prior-art searching.
Community
There's still time to register for our online Community session on 17th February. In "Make the Most of Your Organisation's Reporting Structure" you can learn how to conduct analysis of your own environment to better understand the practical steps you can take to strengthen your visibility and value.
Forthcoming Community sessions:
- On the 16th March, "Sources, Technology, Value - What You Can "Own" and What You Can Influence" will highlight examples and cases showing successful "ownership" and "influence"
- On 20th April, "The Information Team with 'The Right Stuff'" describes what "the right stuff" looks like for robust and effective information teams.

Consulting
If you've participated in any of our webinars or Community sessions, you might have come away inspired to work through the topic with your team... but then the workload takes over and it's hard to schedule and make it happen. Jinfo's Consulting services can bring any of these sessions into your organisation on a bespoke basis.
That's exactly what happened last week with one Consulting customer: the head of the information service had participated in a session on "Convincing the C-Suite", and invited Robin Neidorf, our director of research, to deliver the session for her global team.
With a focused 90 minutes on site, the team was able to dig in more deeply to the ideas, exercises and concerns they had about effectively communicating upward in the organisation about the opportunities and risks associated with smart information strategy. As a follow up, Robin was then able to provide a detailed set of specific recommendations for actions to undertake in the next three to six months.
A scheduled teleconference follow-up session provides an opportunity to respond to any questions that come up as the team takes on the project work.
If you'd like to schedule a custom session based on any topic in Jinfo's domain of knowledge, use our "ask" form to contact Robin directly.
Our Content is the broad platform through which we publish research-based insights. Community provides the environment to discuss them with peers. Consulting tailors the insight to your needs. Find the right Jinfo Subscription level to meet your needs.
