My Favourite Tipples are shared by Penny Robertson, account manager for Jisc Scotland. She shares her favourite online resources in areas from homeworking to digital information curation and reliable sources of guidance & information.

Working within the further and higher education sector it's important to keep up to date with the latest developments in online technologies and how these may be blended within the education environment.

I'm new to homeworking so time management and health are very important factors to working from my dining room! As an account manager at Jisc I have to keep up to date on all initiatives, services and products and some of these tools help me do just that.

• Varidesk: Having recently become home-based I find it challenging to tear myself away from my computer screen, not as much opportunity to have a coffee and a biscuit with team mates now! I don't own a Varidesk but I downloaded the app that you programme in time chunks to alert you to move around instead of being in the same position for 8 hours!

• Jisc guides: An area of my organisation's website which I rely on daily is the guides section of Jisc, it covers topics such as research data, cloud services, mobile, open access and resource discovery to name a few. They're super useful and tell you how long, on average, it will take to read - ranging from a quick five minutes to over an hour.

• Wikimedia Commons: I'm a big fan of the open education movement and when I'm creating material for a workshop or a presentation for an event I always turn to some of the OER collections out there. Wikimedia Commons is a favourite, hosting over 27 million pieces of openly licensed, sound, video and image content.  

• Scoop.it: In my previous role as a learning resources advisor I found this tool extremely useful. Scoop.it gives people the ability to curate their own collection of online resources, and is further enhanced by the use of social media to disseminate and tagging functionality to organise. 

For fun...

• Etsy: I'm planning my wedding just now and being both fussy and a tomboy at heart I've found Etsy invaluable. I have no idea where I bought outfits before it existed!

• A recent read in FreePint that I found particularly interesting was Anders Lautrup-Larsen's article "Towards a Perfect Procurement Process". Anders describes the process and structure for good procurement practices and the people in your organisation who should be involved to achieve a perfect procurement, whilst also being mindful of publishers' requirements and user needs.
