Abstract
Give us your thoughts on your news needs and preferences for our 2014 survey and benefit from the analysis upon publication.
Item
Over the past 18 months, the always-competitive category of news content has undergone more than the usual degree of change.
While upheaval is exhausting, it can also be very exciting, and it makes me look forward even more than usual to the results of the FreePint Survey: News Needs and Preferences 2014.
I invite you to participate (anonymously) in the 2014 survey, which covers:
- Variables that influence your organisation's purchasing of news content
- Relative importance of features, content and usability factors
- Satisfaction with premium services your organisation licenses
- Criteria for evaluation of services for current awareness and in-depth research.
As with previous years, we will make a copy of the full results available to participants who provide an email address at the end of the survey. The report will also be published as part of the FreePint Subscription.
Please take 15 minutes now to complete the survey, and get the benefit of the resulting analysis.
Seventh Year of the Project
2014 marks the seventh year FreePint has undertaken this survey, which usually attracts between 300 and 450 responses from information managers in organisations around the world. This year's version of the survey repeats many of the same questions we have asked over the years, enabling us to take a comparative look at the shifts in needs since 2009.
The project originally developed as an opportunity to ask customers their opinions about several of the products that lead the market for news content. By the second year, however, we expanded beyond that focus to ask questions about the continuum of free and premium content, perceptions of value, unmet needs and areas of priority for collection development around news content.
Our key findings in 2013 included:
- Heightened interest on the part of information managers in the distribution terms included in their licenses for news content
- Decrease in perceived value of the advanced features of premium products
- Significant proportion considering a change to their premium news service provider, including nearly 40% of those who named Factiva as their preferred provider
- Acceleration of move to access news content on mobile devices on the part of users.
Participate now in the 2014 survey.
