Abstract
We look at recent and upcoming FreePint articles, reports and webinars; the latest articles in the FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise and preview the FreePint Topic Series: Next-Generation Competitive Intelligence. The unique needs of law librarians and legal information managers will be addressed in a special Community of Practice teleconference. Robin Neidorf provides examples to illustrate the scope of FreePint's Consulting projects.

Content (Articles, Reports and Webinars)
News resources and news monitoring are always a hot topic, and two recent reviews provide insights into different solutions for different challenges:
- Sophie Alexander provides a Mini Review of FT Newslines, an annotation tool to generate and manage news-focused internal collaboration and discussion within corporate environments, developed for academia
- Chris Porter offers a full review of the social media monitoring tool Engage121. The first chapter introduces the product and provides his analysis of the value proposition; links to subsequent chapters are included, and the full report can also be downloaded as a PDF
- Anne Jordan keeps a close watch on additions and removals at the biggest aggregator products, including Factiva and Nexis.
The latest articles in the FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise continue to educate on the gaps between theory and practice in making today's organisations more socially adept:
- Take a broader look at the market with Ben Wightwick's analysis of what to look for in a social collaboration tool
- If you're wondering why the promise of social collaboration seems to fall down when the tools are brought into a corporate environment, Amit Kothari's article on bridging the gap between business processes and the social enterprise will suggest answers
- It was a story well told in the FreePint Webinar: Social Enterprise Case Study of CapInTouch. Rebecca O'Reilly, a senior analyst for Capco, presented details of how CapInTouch was developed, launched and quickly became an integral part of the organisation's global operations and processes. Last week, I met with co-producers for the upcoming FreePint Topic Series: Next-Generation Competitive Intelligence (April - May 2014).
- Watch for articles reflecting best practices at the different stages of CI; transferring research skills from other disciplines to CI; collaboration between CI and other information/research staff; and more
- At the same time, we continue to publish product reviews on relevant products, such as the recent review of Digimind Social and Mini Review of Manzama
- Register your interest, and you'll get email updates of new content in the series, including announcements of relevant FreePint Webinars and Communities of Practice.
Community
Law librarians and legal information managers share particular challenges around news content delivery. Compared with their peers in other industries, they have different tools available, a unique audience, and very stringent budget requirements.
To address these unique needs, I've added a special Communities of Practice call in April especially for law firms:
- "Law Firms, News Content and Technology" is a special 90-minute teleconference just for law librarians and their peers: Wednesday, 16 April, 330 p.m. UK time / 1030 a.m. Eastern. Learn more and register now >>
Consulting
FreePint Consulting projects can add that little bit of capacity to your workforce, or provide insights you can't easily get on your own.
- One recently completed project took fewer than four hours to provide the client with a basic report on finding and purchasing standards documents - something they'd wanted for several months and never found the time to do themselves
- We've also just completed a new project to document a few case studies on changes in subscription licensing models, to support education of a sales team on the client's own new approach to pricing
- Another new project picks up research FreePint has revisited periodically over the past four years, on buying patterns in the UK legal market. This project involves a combination of competitive analysis, survey work and in-depth interviews with different stakeholder groups.
FreePint Subscription
Organisations with a FreePint Subscription have access to all content (articles, reports and webinars), and at the Team level or higher have access to all Communities of Practice. With a FreePint Subscription at the Enterprise level, your subscription includes a credit for up to six hours of consulting time per year. Start a subscription or email at robin.neidorf@freepint.com if you are considering upgrading to the next level.
