Abstract

FreePint's "sounding board" of information managers representing the full range of customers by industry, geography and professional industry has helped to firm up FreePint's editorial plans for the coming months. Upcoming Topic Series include The Social Enterprise; International Copyright; Licensing, Pricing & Negotiation; Next-Gen Competitive Intelligence; and Elearning for Information Skills.

As FreePint's Director of Research, I regularly get suggestions for product reviews, ideas for webinar topics and speakers, and requests to cover different topics.

So that we can make informed decisions about where to focus our resources, I turn to a "sounding board" made up of FreePint Subscription customers. They are all information managers representing the full range of our customers, by industry, geography and professional interests.

Our most recent survey of the sounding board has helped me firm up our editorial plans for the coming months:

FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise

In January we'll launch the FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise, to examine the ways organisations are maximising internal social connections and knowledge management

A team of three co-producers will collaborate to commission, produce and comment on the content for this series. I'm delighted to be working more closely with contributors Sarah Dillingham, Shimrit Janes, and James Mullan on this project.

When you register your interest in this Topic Series, you'll receive regular updates on articles and reports published within the series. You'll also get early notification when we open up registration for webinars, and we'll provide you with a free copy of the Buyer's Guide published in the series, including valuable premium articles.

Future Topic Series

Also receiving the thumbs-up from the sounding board are the following:

  • International Copyright: sharing content across international borders is easy to do and creates efficiencies in international collaboration... but licensing and regulatory frameworks do not always support doing so. This Topic Series will bring together publishers, information professionals, users, and licensing agents to discuss what our industry needs and whether there can be any common ground. April 2014
  • Licensing, Pricing and Negotiation: it's not unusual to have three or four intermediary layers between publisher and end user: information professionals, aggregators, and more. For the flow of content to be efficient and cost-effective, it's essential for representatives of each of these layers to understand the full ecosystem, how they add value and where they can improve the flow.
This Topic Series will explore and explain the variables that go into licensing, pricing and adding value at each intermediary layer, enabling all representatives to negotiate more effectively from a position of knowledge. May - June 2014
  • Next-Gen Competitive Intelligence: this Topic Series will emphasise product reviews, but also include case studies and expert tips on making the most of evolving technology to conduct competitive intelligence. TBD 2014
  • Elearning for Information Skills: with training budgets shrinking, time scarce and more information work moving to the desktop, there's never been a better time to take advantage of the promise of elearning to boost information skills. Develop your own resources, and learn how to coach others to turn expertise into reusable training modules. TBD 2014

Planned Product Reviews

We also consider products for review outside of the scope of Topic Series coverage. Contributor Chris Porter is now working on a cluster of reviews of products that monitor social media as well as news - tried-and-tested offerings like Vocus and Burrelles, but also innovators like Engage121.

Chris' reviews will begin to appear in January and continue through April.

After much redevelopment work, ISI Emerging Markets is finally ready for us to review its Emerging Markets Information Service (EMIS), planned for February publication.

Also making their way through the research process for review are Manzama, Arachnys, and Transactional Track Record (TTR).
