Jinfo Blog
16th August 2013
Abstract
If you're responsible for news products and services within your organisation, take part in the FreePint Survey: News Needs and Preferences 2013. In return for your time you'll receive a free copy of the full report later this year. The market for news aggregation has changed significantly in the six years since FreePint first started surveying the market and you can keep updated through the FreePint Topic Series: Beyond Aggregation, running in October and November.
Item
For the sixth year, FreePint is conducting research on the needs and preferences of organisations with regard to news content.
Who Should Participate?
If you are an information manager knowledgeable about and/or responsible for your organisation's use of news products and services, please complete the online survey now.
Your responses are completely anonymous. We do ask for an email address at the end of the survey, which we use to send you a free copy of the full report when published. However, your email address is never associated with your responses in any way.
What's Covered in the Survey?
Over the years we have been running this project, we have expanded the research to look not just at specific "market leader" products, but also at the balance of premium and free content, the rise of interest in mobile delivery, critical variables in selection of a service, and likelihood of changing services.
Because of the growth of the project, the survey runs five screens and can take up to 20 minutes to complete. The return on the investment of your time is a detailed analysis of many facets of this important category of content.
If you are a current FreePint Subscriber, you can download last year's report now, to better understand the full scope of the project. This free introductory article also provides an overview of the scope and coverage of last year's results.
One Piece of a Complex Whole
Since we began this project six years ago, the market for news aggregation has changed significantly. As part of the FreePint Topic Series: Beyond Aggregation, running in October and November, the results of this year's survey will shed light on corporate demand for aggregation products. But these results are part of a complex overall picture that also must take into account:
- Technology services and platforms that enable information managers to create and personalise their own feeds
- Significant changes on the part of key vendors regarding product strategy
- Rising importance of niche publications and sources
- Concerns about copyright, sharing and distribution rights and managing risk
- Questions regarding the viability of a single-source solution in large organisations with diverse needs that vary by department.
Be sure to register your interest in the FreePint Topic Series: Beyond Aggregation to stay informed about articles, reports and webinars in the series. Registrants will get early invitations to any webinars and will also receive a free copy of the FreePint Report: Buyer's Guide on News Aggregation upon publication.
But first, help me gather this year's data; take the time now to complete the FreePint Survey: News Needs and Preferences 2013.
