The June edition of VIP Magazine (Nr. 91) features a review of China Connect, a new offering from Bureau van Dijk (BvD) (http://www.bvdinfo.com) and BCMS International (http://www.bcmscorporate.com/). The service provides subscribers with targeted intelligence on the Chinese private enterprise mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market.

China Connect is unique in several important ways. The database profiles live acquisition opportunities of Chinese non-listed company and state-owned enterprises – companies seeking buyers or funding, or looking to make acquisitions. Launched in February 2011, China Connect has already profiled more than 1,000 such opportunities, and hopes to add 50 new opportunities every week. All profiles feature hard-to-find transaction details, such as Chinese governmental investment restrictions and vendor applied terms and conditions, as well as each target’s “Business Scope” – the range of activities that the target can legally undertake, both presently and in the future.

The data provider, BCMS (an international M&A advisory firm), obtains this specialised information from direct contacts in China, including transaction parties, equity exchanges, local financiers, brokers and advisors, government contacts and charitable foundations. The database also includes profiles of thousands of historical transactions for benchmarking purposes, with deal values on 100% of records.

Subscribers to China Connect that are interested in particular M&A opportunities can also take advantage of BCMS’s managed introductions service. Through the China Connect platform, users can request that senior staff at BCMS arrange an introduction with one or more of the deal parties or advisors. This enables subscribers to leverage BCMS’s “guanxi” – connections and personal networks, which are vital to success in China.

China Connect’s data is wholly sourced by BCMS, from their Beijing office. The data are distributed through BvD’s Zephyr platform, which provides sophisticated search and reporting tools specifically for M&A data. VIP’s report takes a close look at China Connect’s transaction data and functionality, as well as background information on BCMS International.

If your firm is looking to invest, expand or enter business in China, or if you advise and assist such firms, the VIP review of China Connect will make for an interesting read.
