The February edition of VIP (VIP Issue Number 87) takes a detailed look at PitchBook, the private equity (PE) research platform from PitchBook Data, Inc., based in Seattle. The company was founded in 2007 by Mr John Gabbert, who spent 10 years working in the venture capital and private equity database products industry prior to launching his own company.
In the few years since its inception, PitchBook has grown to be a well-respected competitor in the private equity data space. Their free current awareness service, the PitchBook Daily Newsletter, is read by 70,000 recipients worldwide.
The PitchBook online platform specifically focuses on small, mid-market, and large PE deals and companies of all sizes, types, and industries. PitchBook provides analysis on every stage and aspect of PE transactions, from announcement to final exit. The firm’s systematic primary and secondary research enables them to provide a substantial amount of proprietary data, including information on deal terms and structures, deal amounts, valuations, EBITDA data and multiples.
VIP’s product review provides a step-by-step overview of all the modules on the PitchBook platform, including company, investor and deal profiles; public company comps tool; fund return analysis and more. The review also captures PitchBook’s user-friendly, customisable interface with screenshots and detailed descriptions.
In January 2011, PitchBook was a finalist in the Best Business Information Resource category in the Software & Information Industry Association's 26th Annual CODiE Awards. PitchBook Data, Inc. also received two CODiE Awards for Best Financial/ Market Data Information Source and Best Vertical Market Business Content Solution Super Category.
