Last night during the SIIA's annual Information Industry Summit (IIS) in New York, CODiE awards were handed to recognise excellence in the business software, digital content, and education technology industries. The award programme starts with open nominations during the autumnl, followed by a first round judging process that seeks detailed input from industry observers (full disclosure - I was first round judge for the Best Business Information Resource category. It's a great way to learn more about the products we might like to feature in the magazine).
This year the first round judges were paired up and provided demos by vendors, as well as product access in some cases to help inform judging. From the compiled feedback, a list of finalists was developed for each category (available here - http://www.siia.net/codies/2011/finalist_list.asp). The final round of voting takes place during IIS by conference attendees.
Many of the finalists and winners in the Digital Content categories will be familiar to VIP readers, who have access to our in-depth product reviews that should provide some insights into why these products rose above the pack. Among them:
- Best Business Information Resource: InfoDesk, InfoDesk Solutions. Reviewed in March 2010 (VIP Issue No. 76) by Jonathan Gordon-Till, InfoDesk enables users to personalise, view, search, publish and export real-time information extracted from any electronic source to which they have access.
- Best Content Aggregation Solution: Newsdesk 4, Moreover Technologies. A review by Penny Crossland of Newsdesk 4, an SaaS current awareness tool which aggregates business and consumer news from a variety of online news and social media sources, was featured in our November 2010 issue (VIP Issue No. 84). The platform also won in the Super Category: Best Information Solution.
- Best Solution Integrating Content into Workflow: Alacra Compliance, Alacra, Inc. Perrin Kerravala reviewed this product in our July 2010 issue (VIP Issue No. 80); the product helps financial institutions and professional service firms implement a consistent and comprehensive process for Customer Identification, Know-Your-Customer, and Enhanced Due Diligence programmes. Perrin is currently working on an update for LiveWire that will delve into Alacra Compliance's recently launched batch function.
Coming soon - in production now for our February issue (VIP Issue No. 87) - is a review of the winning product for both Best Financial/Market Data Information Service and for the super category of Best Vertical Market Business Content Solution: PitchBook, by PitchBook Data, Inc.
We're hoping to bring you reviews of the two other winners in the Digital Content categories in the coming months: ZoomInfo Pro, from Zoom Information (Best Directory & Business Leads Service) and Wall Street Journal Professional from Dow Jones & Company (Best News Service). Congratulations to all the CODiEs winners and thanks to our VIP reviewers for keeping us in the know!
