For equities and fixed income research, TheMarkets.com (TheMarkets) offers both real-time and aftermarket broker reports along with several other content offerings including events, estimates, company profiles, transcripts, SEC filings and broker financial models. Over 700 firms, including the nine Member Firms who own TheMarkets, offer research.
I was pleased to learn that when TheMarkets say they have broker reports from around the world, they really mean it. Every continent is well represented (aside from Antarctica), with brokers from 66 countries offering research. That includes Bahrain, Estonia, Nigeria and South Korea, to name a few. Often, these brokers will offer research in both their native language, as well as English.
Of course, the US and UK are well represented as well. The nine owners of TheMarkets (Member Firms) are the largest brokers in the world, including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Dresdner Kleinwort and JP Morgan Chase. These giants naturally cover the world and a variety of sectors within their investment research.
Access to the Member Firms public and proprietary websites is also readily offered to users who have entitlement to that firmâs research. Entitlement is necessary to access a brokerâs research on TheMarkets real-time platform, and is gained through an existing relationship a user or userâs company may have with a broker. TheMarkets has a special Entitlements Team that makes the process of verifying client/broker relationships flow in a smooth and timely manner.
No broker relationships? Never fear, there is an aftermarket product that is especially appealing to those who either do not have broker relationships or do not have a need for real-time data access. The embargo period for the majority of the 500 brokers offering their research on the aftermarket platform is one week, so the information and analysis in the reports is still very timely.
I was also intrigued by the workflow solutions the vendor is offering. The Internal Research capability allows a user to upload their own proprietary research documents onto the platform and view their documents side by side with the broker reports. The userâs reports are processed, tagged and uploaded onto TheMarkets secure platform, where they are fully searchable.
Alternatively, the Application Programming Interface (API) enables TheMarkets research platform to be incorporated into a userâs own internal application, such as a corporate intranet. These types of customisable delivery options certainly enhance the value of the service.
