InfoViewer reduces stress

Business information consumers will be familiar with the challenge of having to search through a plethora of sources and resources to keep abreast of topical events. Fortunately for them, information professionals are good at that sort of thing, bringing with them additional skills in packaging and presenting key information to their customers. InfoDeskâs personalisable information delivery service â InfoViewer - provides an antidote to much of the intellectual and operational stress associated with having to cope with a wide range of information sources for news or event monitoring. In this month's VIP Magazine (No. 76) we take a look at version 6.0 of InfoViewer. The concept of InfoViewer is very simple: bring together content from whatever sources and organisation has access to (e.g. any online news provider), enable that content to be extracted and filtered, then re-packaged for onward delivery to usersâ desktops as customised newsletters, emails, or feeds to a portal â all in pretty much real time. And it doesnât matter what the sources are, so long as the organisation has an appropriate subscription or the source is freely accessible (e.g. free websites). Nice features of InfoViewer found in our review are the possibility of bringing together content from disparate sources including news databases, video, and web sources, quick set-up of topical searches, the ability to annotate and edit all content (e.g. to highlight important content), and the alerting and newsletters for end-users â all in a single, relatively intuitive interface. On the downside is the inability to customise your own newsletter templates without InfoDeskâs help, though we understand that this will be possible in the next version due this summer.
