DealWatch, which is reviewed in issue 62 of VIP, is the mergers and acquisitions research arm of ISI Emerging Markets. It provides factual data from published sources and editorial coverage of rumour and predictions in M&A, equity capital markets, private equity, and venture capital transactions in emerging markets, as well as tools for creating rankings, league tables, multiples, news, analysis, company profiles, financials, and reports. Coverage includes Central, Eastern and Southeast Europe, Russia & CIS Region, Greater China, Latin America, and India. Content on the DealWatch service is divided into four main areas: news, deal database, league board and analysis.Of particular interest in the news section is the mix of information from both from published sources and from intelligence gleaned by ISI editorial staff on the ground in the countries covered, with much of the content written by locally based experts. The Deal Database, however, is the real strength of the service, pulling together information on past, current and pending deals from a wide variety of sources into a standardised summary table format. LeagueBoard is a special feature within the DealWatch service which delivers rankings of financial and legal advisors, managers and brokers. In both Deal Database and LeagueBoard it is possible to produce a customised table according to the user's need. Finally, the analysis and commentary section includes reports outlining and explaining M&A and ECM trends and prospects in specific countries and industries, or of certain deal types, and one of the most valuable parts of this is the quarterly report summarising M&A market in the countries and regions covered by the service. DealWatch is an extremely useful service, bringing together a wealth of information on M&A deals from countries where data is not always easy to find. It makes use of ISI staff who provide the company's other services in these countries and thereby provides a rich resource. It is straightforward to use, but is aimed at experts in the M&A field rather than at generalist information professionals. Overall this is a very useful tool.
