The survey shows that use of ebooks extends across a wide spectrum of industries and business services. While use is on the rise across all sectors, the research identifies which industries are leading the way.
The survey also looks at how a variety of different devices are being used for access, which factors are stimulating growth.
Which five ebook providers are the most-used is highlighted, along with a long list of other specialised providers and whether organisations are using multiple providers or prefer a sole supplier.
The research covers the ways in which information centres perceive and assess the success of ebook deployment for their organisations, and how factors such as usability, convenience and working with existing systems are factored into the purchasing decision.
A very useful comparative table focuses on the top 10 ebook platforms as identified in the research, and describes the main content and sources, key features, format & delivery, and highlights contract options. Vendors covered are: Amazon, Books 24x7, EBSCO, Elsevier (two products included), OverDrive, ProQuest, Safari, Springer and Wiley.
A section on licensing indicates that across all sectors, the selection of content relevant to the enterprise activity remains the most important factor. While cost per use is an important metric, flexible licensing that enables access solely to the right content is even more critical. We look at the variety of licensing options on offer, and why an organisation might choose one over another.
