Abstract

This monthly update collects the current content relevant to those responsible for information service management, information strategy and content procurement in a convenient PDF package for download and offline reading.

Includes:

  • Product Review of Manzama
Chris Porter's product review of current awareness service Manzama includes an introduction to the company and product along with contact details. Typical use-cases are identified such as business development and competitive intelligence, and the value the service brings to its customers in the legal, accounting and financial services fields is examined. A detailed section on sources goes into detail on areas such as the 70,000 news and business sources included plus the option to include additional feeds.

  • Product Review of LexisNexis TotalPatent
Robyn Smith's review of TotalPatent, the global patent research database from LexisNexis provides an overview of value offered along with the company's contact details. 100 patent issuing authorities are covered and patents are searchable in their original language (except for non-Latin) as well as machine-translated English for 10 languages. Links to other tools from parent company Reed Elsevier such as Scopus and CourtLink are available. The technology is also under scrutiny and Robyn tests out the semantic, guided and advanced search as well as putting through their paces the "widgets" which can be used to supplement search strategy.

  • Source Update
Updates on what's happening with sources and content aggregators Nexis, Factiva and EBSCO.

  • News and Analysis
Commentary from our contributing editors on products, vendors, trends and issues in the information industry.
