Abstract
Growing popular support for a "do-not-track" option could seriously threaten internet-based eCommerce, Ovum warns - adding to other comment which raises doubts about both the effectiveness and the intrusiveness of social media and sentiment analytics. Yet official signals about privacy action remain confused at present, with the European Union under pressure from several quarters about its developing data protection regime and Britain's Information Commissioner's Office apparently watering down its own policy on cookies.
