Abstract

The increasing demand for high-quality, ethically-sourced data to fuel artificial intelligence (AI) has revealed significant gaps in the frameworks that govern data sharing.

A recent study has highlighted four actions which are important for information managers:

  1. Develop standard data licences for greater access.
  2. Address ambiguities in current licensing practices.
  3. Simplify licensing frameworks while enabling customisation.
  4. Use new frameworks to enhance governance, compliance, and ethics.
In this article, we analyse the findings and actions, thus enabling information managers to foster responsible development and use of AI by standardising and simplifying data licensing terms.
