Newsletter 624

9th January 2025

Stephen PhillipsAs I look forward to 2025, I was thinking about my journey through the "Information Age"; from hard-copy documents, to online databases, CD-ROMs, to the internet.

With the emergence of AI, information managers have a host of new challenges, and opportunities in the "Age of Intelligence".

I am optimistic that we will adapt and thrive, because we have a powerful combination of skills:

  • We are experienced, having historical context and strategic foresight
  • We connect the dots, identifying synergies and unlocking value
  • We drive outcomes by aligning with organisational objectives
  • We are risk averse, protecting our organisations; putting our "firm first"
  • We know information - all AI needs good data.

Judging by our conversations and your reading habits, you are responding to the challenge, with Jinfo's most popular resources this year being:

We've grouped all our resources into a set of Jinfo Focus pages, including Content Portfolio, Artificial Intelligence – and the brand new "Focus on Information Risk", covering governance and oversight.

In our next Community session, Matt Donahue and Nichole Spell of Dow Jones will discuss how AI is shaping the future of Factiva, with insights into the newly launched Factiva Smart Summary:

With more vendors deploying AI-driven solutions, our recent clinic on contracting for AI was both popular and productive.

Our detailed article and recorded webinar answer your questions on contracting language, third party dynamics, intellectual property rights, ethical usage and best practices.

As always, all our resources are available in your Jinfo Subscription – if you want to discuss getting the benefits, please get in touch.

Finally, educating end-users is another important facet of an information manager's work. We invite you to complete our short survey and receive a copy of the anonymised results.

We've had a tremendous year of exploration here at Jinfo, and we're looking forward to continuing the journey with you in 2025.

Jinfo Testimonials
"Thank you for another very thought provoking session. It was great to have an open and honest presentation from this vendor. It was particularly valuable to learn about the restrictions on their content in their AI licensing models due to copyright concerns."
