Editorial
If you want a different result, you have to do something different. That's a basic tenet of creating change, in your career, your business or your life.
We're in a period of the year in which a lot of businesses are planning - and budgeting - for a new year. How can 2015 be a year of different results for your information strategy?
See Yourself Differently
Today's information professionals increasingly realise and articulate their unique role as the internal consultant and adviser around information sources, technologies and value.
Many are still engaged with the "transactional" tasks of finding information and fulfilling requests. But they're discovering and defining their strategic role at the centre of their organisations.
The latest Subscription Update highlights the content and resources FreePint produces to support this advisory role. This type of insight goes far beyond your formidable research and KM skills: it is essential to the success of your business.
Engage Differently
It's well and good to redefine your role; how do you get others to take that role seriously?
FreePint's Webinars and Communities of Practice are useful resources to learn different approaches you can apply in your environment. We work through case studies, worksheets, and practical examples of how "value" may be defined in different organisations.
Case in point: coming up in November is the FreePint Webinar: Convincing the C-Suite... and Getting Their Attention in the First Place, open to anyone in an organisation with a FreePint Subscription. If you don't yet have a Subscription and would like to try before you buy, complete the Webinar registration form with the voucher code "CHANGE2015" for a guest pass.
Change Your Inputs
We're all guilty of the path of least resistance: using the tried and tested methods rather than exploring something new. FreePint's reviews and commentary can fill in some of the gaps, but you owe it to your own success to introduce new inputs into your work:
- Network with a different group of colleagues
- Attend a new conference or programme (I've got my eye on Cycling for Libraries 2015)
- Commit to yourself to reserve 60 minutes per week (minimum!) for exploration of new resources.
There are a million ways you can contribute to a more successful 2015. Tell us how you want FreePint to help.
