Editorial
By Sara Waddington
Changing the way we work calls for a change in mindset and a willingness to embrace change itself. Once accepted within organisations and by individuals, new ways of working can offer a variety of benefits - saving cost, time and resources. Whether it is the adoption of a new practice, process or procedure, obtaining 'buy in' from key players is crucial.
We explore this theme in this issue of FreePint where you will see that changing the way we work can lead to substantial communication improvements and a more hands-on' approach.
Thousands of corporate intranets are seldom-used, impossibly complex systems. In contrast, next-generation intranets are simple, social platforms that can change the way people work (for the better). However, getting to intranet 2.0 isn't so easy. In this issue of FreePint, Chris McGrath unveils ten steps to getting there in his article 'Intranet 2.0: Ten Not-So-Easy Steps', and illustrates the benefits on offer from the transition.
Similarly, with the theme of change in mind, the FreePint team decided to overturn the usual format and structure of its event and exhibition reports by encouraging reader contributions and event assessments in its SLA report (also featured in this issue).
In a nod to 'crowd-sourcing', FreePint's own editorial team drew on the experiences of fellow attendees at SLA's 2008 conference to provide a broader, deeper picture of the event. This report gives those who attended the event a way of reflecting not only on their own experience but also to garner further insight from their peers..
Don't forget that a raft of new reports and tools, as well as new Folios for FUMSI subscribers, are available from the FUMSI website.
Stay in touch - please send your suggestions, ideas and requests to mailto:support@freepint.com, or use our online suggestion box.

- One Bar member is looking for market research resources (apart from Frost and Sullivan reports) on medical devices, particularly compression therapy and wound care management, in France. More specifically, reports which focus more on countries and internal markets....... Can you help?
- Do you know of any product on the market that directly competes with Amadeus (company, product, country and industry research)?
- Another Barista wishes to source statistics on social networking sites, particularly for Myspace. Can you suggest any good sources or companies (free or chargeable) of this information?
- Another Bar member would appreciate some good tips on accident statistics, specifically on how many people have been in car accidents in any one year whilst returning home from hospital.
- Don't forget to access the latest additions to the FreePint events database, which can be found on the Bar.

Intranet 2.0: Ten Not-So-Easy Steps FUMSI: Share
With the widespread enterprise adoption of social media technology, first generation corporate intranets are due for an update. Chris McGrath gives his roadmap for how companies can use intranet 2.0 technologies to transform the way that people work.
WHAT'S INSIDE: 'Find the intranet server, get to a command prompt, and type >rm -rf * (that's a server admin joke...). Alternatively, unplug it. Seriously, it's not worth trying to fix; you've got to start over.'
Read, print, save or forward this article now. »
SLA: In Focus FUMSI: Share
In a nod to 'crowd-sourcing', FreePint's own editorial team drew on the experiences of fellow attendees at SLA's 2008 conference to provide a broader, deeper picture of the event. Robin Neidorf and William Hann - and a bevy of SLA member/contributors - report on the Seattle show.
WHAT'S INSIDE: 'We received dozens of contributions, which we have organised and edited, with the authors' approval, to create this report. This report gives those who attended the event a way of reflecting not only on their own experience but also to garner further insight from their peers. Those who could not attend have a chance to peek into the event, going beyond the session summaries to understand a bit more of the Zeitgeist...and the value of attending.'
