Abstract
We recently carried out an in-depth review of just-auto's QUBE database. The specialist online resource portal focuses on data for the light-vehicle industry but reviewer Mark Burnard argues "a wide range of other business sectors and roles would find QUBE valuable, as would academic institutions". The car and light vehicle industry is incredibly competitive and secretive about possible new business and product launches. But to get to grips with what's happening and forward planning, its marketing teams are going online to access and use the latest research.
One solution being used is the QUBE database, just reviewed by Jinfo (Subscriber access).
Jinfo's reviewer, Mark Burnard, reports, "Corporate customers have been able to limit the volume of unnecessary research purchases and/or the use of expensive third-party consultants, simply by suggesting that their employees search for information within QUBE first. It has also helped companies prevent duplicate purchases of the same report by different departments and regions."
He adds, "The beauty of a 'one-stop-shop' like QUBE is that it facilitates easy comparison between products, OEMs and suppliers. It may well also stimulate further research and help benchmark..."
Forecasts and analysis
QUBE incorporates just-auto's Product Lifecycle DataBase (PLDB), an add-on module which "holds the lifecycle information for 3,527 historic, current and future light vehicle production models" at the time of writing the review. QUBE provides news, original insights and analysis, market forecasts and strategy information. The level of qualitative and quantitative research available is also a plus.
Mark notes that the value-added content of QUBE lies in its ability to offer independent qualitative and quantitative primary research as well as market forecast information. QUBE and just-auto's own team of automotive industry experts speak directly with senior industry practitioners. "This research is transformed into news articles and, importantly, original analysis which is unique to QUBE," writes Mark.
QUBE uses "base forecast" information collected from "a widely known and trusted automotive data provider" to produce its own "global sector and component forecasts that cover many of the auto industry's hot growth areas".
Market share information is calculated by QUBE's analysts using an approach that integrates interviews with industry contacts, consideration of financial reporting as well as application of industry knowledge, explains Mark.
