Abstract

We live in a world that’s driven by images and that’s having a knock-on effect when it comes to data. Who doesn’t want clearer snapshots of what data means these days? Our reviewer, Dr Michelle Maxwell, has reviewed one of the latest innovations in data analysis and visualisation tools – Intellixir 11.1. Find out what she thinks of the system.

Item

You could argue that if you're using a data analysis tool that doesn't enable you to visualise data, then your system needs an upgrade.

So we were keen to put Intellixir 11.1 through our review process to consider how it could help you to visualise and mine huge amounts of data with colourful and meaningful graphics. Our Mini Review of Intellixir is now available.

Identify Patterns and Relationships

Our reviewer, Dr Michelle Maxwell, finds: "[With Intellixir] not only can you make sense of [data] faster, but you can also observe interesting patterns that wouldn't be apparent from looking only at stats."

Data can be categorised using dedicated features, and of course there are the graphics - bold, rich presentations of data that can pinpoint key trends and opportunities, and collaborations. Michelle explains that by using Intellixir "it is possible to drill down into these relationships to understand what they are collaborating on, whether there are any gaps, or who is best to approach about a particular collaboration".

What's more, "You can visualise the data clustered by keywords. This method helps you to find the right approach to your study. By double clicking on a concept, you can save to a sub-database and re-analyse this smaller cluster. This Concepts processing also helps to delete those documents that are not relevant to your study," she notes.

In addition, she explains, "You can select specific concepts from the list and then view these via the Concepts Network tab. This cloud view provides fantastic visualisation of the main players working within a specific IPC concept."

Valuable Resource

Intellixir is not the only data analysis product on the market, but Michelle finds it "is a valuable resource for most large organisations looking to gain the most from their vast resources of information".

This version of Intellixir, from parent Questel, is likely to be used by information professionals, research analysts and competitive intelligence specialists to manage and analyse patents and scientific publications.
