Abstract
The Bloomberg Law app has taken a different route from its competitors, such as Westlaw, Nexis, HeinOnline and Fastcase. How did it fare in our product review?

There's no doubt that mobile devices and the demand for information at our fingertips has penetrated the legal profession. So we were keen to investigate some of the main legal information providers and to assess their mobile offerings and apps.
Clearly not all legal work can be carried out on the small screen but there's certainly demand for on-the-go access to areas such as breaking news, analysis and access to legal documents.
The rise of mobile devices doesn't mean that one device has taken the legal sector by storm; currently there's a mix of mobile handsets, as well as tablets, and a mix of operating systems in use, so assessing the technology was an important part of the review process.
Bloomberg Law App - A Convenient Mobile Companion
Our most recent mini review looked at the Bloomberg Law app (Subscriber content).
As reviewer John DiGilio (national manager of research services for Reed Smith) explains, "The Bloomberg Law app is an easy to use, on-the-go portal to the company's popular current awareness offerings. Available for both iOS and Android devices, it provides access to Bloomberg Law's constantly updating library of newswires, law reports, newspapers, magazines, and more."
The app also offers alerts for news and legal searches and the ability to share legal documents and news with other Bloomberg Law subscribers.
Commenting on the technology, John adds, "Bloomberg Law's mobile solution is unlike most of the others we have reviewed thus far. It does not stand alone as an on-the-go research solution. Bloomberg Law's website is already optimised for the small-screen experience."

Bloomberg Law "still cementing its status in the legal research marketplace" explains John, and "is doing so by trying to differentiate itself from what the other major players are already doing".
