The start of the new year sees a new Research Focus, "Strategic Alignment of IS and IT" which explores the sometimes challenging relationship between information services and information technology and how both sides can work together to achieve mutual goals around the value of information.
For a taste of what's to come in this Research Focus, be sure to read "Introducing the Producers".
Shaida Dorabjee kicked off the Focus by sharing her experiences of making cultural changes within the organisation to ensure strategic organisational objectives remain at the forefront. Read Shaida's insightful article for tips on how to go about making this change in "Creating the Right Organisational Culture".

Community
There will be an in-person Communities of Practice (CoP) session in London on 28th January. "Step One to Alignment Between IS and IT" will demystify IT and provide you with tools to document what you learn about your colleagues on the “other side” of information practice. This is also available as an online teleconference on a choice of two dates in February: 2nd or 4th.
Future online teleconferences include:
- "Make the Most of Your Organisation's Reporting Structure" on 17th February - where you can learn more about the characteristics of success for your reporting structure and conduct further analysis of your own environment to better understand the practical steps you can take to strengthen your visibility and value.
- "Sources, Technology, Value - What You Can 'Own' and What You Can Influence" on the 16th March will highlight examples and cases showing successful "ownership" and "influence".

Consulting
Based on our research during the Topic Series, "News, and Other Commodities", which ran from October to December, we've come to the conclusion that any current awareness system that hasn't been reviewed in detail in the past two years needs to be examined closely.
Apparently many of our customers think the same thing: we've continued, completed and started new projects that have as a central component a needs assessment for the sources, distribution and value associated with news and current awareness.
This is a tricky area, requiring user input, review of required sources, and investigation of the market for aggregation technologies.
If your most recent needs assessment is more than two years old, we can help. Request your free copy of the Index Report for "News, and Other Commodities", and then get in touch with our director of research, Robin Neidorf (robin.neidorf@freepint.com) to learn about our approach.
Our Content is the broad platform through which we publish research-based insights. Community provides the environment to discuss them with peers. Consulting tailors the insight to your needs. Find the right FreePint Subscription level to meet your needs.
