Community

There will be an in-person Communities of Practice (CoP) session in London on 28th January "Step One to Alignment Between IS and IT" which will demystify IT and provide you with tools to document what you learn about your colleagues on the "other side" of information practice.  This is also available as an online teleconference on a choice of two dates in February: 2nd or 4th.

Consulting

Peer review and feedback has been a popular use of consulting credit recently. Many information managers are completing their strategic statements, development plans and department goals for 2016, and we've been pleased to have the opportunity to review and offer confidential comments on these materials.

Among the most common advice we've given in these peer review opportunities:

  • Consider your audience: Is the main idea expressed clearly, near the top of the document, in terms that make sense to your intended reader? This is particularly important if the intended reader does not have information expertise.

  • Is it practical? We're all for bold strategic statements, but the best ones are grounded in practical actions and measurable results. If you achieve your departmental goals, how will you know you've got there? What practical difference will this achievement make to the business?

  • Is it challenging enough? We also urge and coach information managers to challenge (appropriately) the status quo, biases and assumptions about information in their organisations.

Our work with a wide range of organisations with varied objectives enables us to bring a practiced eye to peer review and commentary. If you'd like help with a strategic plan, budget or department goal-setting project, please get in touch with our director of research, Robin Neidorf (robin.neidorf@freepint.com).

Our Content is the broad platform through which we publish research-based insights. Community provides the environment to discuss them with peers. Consulting tailors the insight to your needs. Find the right FreePint Subscription level to meet your needs.
