FreePint's current Topic Series, "News, and Other Commodities" continues its exploration of "value" and since the last Subscription Update we've published:
- An interview with Avention, the global business insights provider, about its recent announcement that it will be reverting to its OneSource brand name. In "Avention, OneSource, iSell - What's New, or What's Familiar?", Chris Porter finds out what is happening and why, and also asks about the company's perspective on current market trends.
- Since June of this year, the UK government has been making digital data from Companies House available for free from its website. In "UK Companies House Information - What Difference Does "Free" Make?" FreePint looks at the free offering and analyses how leading information vendors Arachnys, Avention, Dow Jones, DueDil and LexisNexis see the change affecting their subscription-based services.
- Staying on the theme of subscription information services, in "Detecting Latent Sales Opportunities via Sales Triggers", Michael Levy highlights how essential these sources are, along with information from social media, in allowing sales reps to identify companies in a state of flux and with emerging demand. Read his article to find out how vendors such as Avention, BvD Mint, Hoover's, InsideView and Owler can help identify emerging opportunities and prospects.
- In "Market Landscape - Media Monitoring", FreePint presents an overview of some key vendors in the media monitoring space. The table identifies key vendors and products and highlights special features, key use-cases and value. Products covered include Cision, Commetric, Factiva, Infomart, LexisNexis Publisher, Meltwater News, Newsdesk, NewsEdge, Nexis and SinglePoint.
We also published a recent report in which we report on the analysis and findings of FreePint's research into private company information, including details on those suppliers which respondents use as their primary and secondary sources, and which niche sources information managers prefer. Vendors and products mentioned include Alacra, BvD, Capital IQ, Dow Jones Companies & Executives, Hoover's, LexisNexis Dossier, Mergermarket and OneSource.
FreePint Webinars have also been scheduled as part of the series "News, and Other Commodities":
- "Needs Analysis for Commodity Content", 10th December
- "DIY Content Aggregation: Benefits & Costs of Managing Your Own Platform", 23rd November
You can also read a write-up of a previous FreePint Webinar in "Options for Authentication - Which Approach Does What?", outlining the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to authentication, including single sign-on, IP authentication as well as other popular tools such as EZproxy. The article extracts some practical next steps in relation to user authentication and FreePint Subscribers can log in to view the recording.
Other articles and Q&As recently published include:
- How to Develop Strong Relationships between Buyers and Suppliers
- Considerations and Lessons Learnt from Developing a Virtual Information Centre
