Item
The FreePint Topic Series "News, and Other Commodities" launched this month and runs until the end of December (register now to ensure you get regular updates as the series progresses as well as a Registrants' Report including producer commentary and Subscription content).
The series sheds light on how you can make a judgement on "value" when applied to news, basic company information, basic "people" information and the like. It will also explore the new ways organisations are incorporating content streams into workflows to keep workers informed, efficient and results-oriented.
Input from Experts
The breadth and depth of the series, a yearly staple and always the biggest of four series we run annually, is demonstrated by us having five co-producers, experts on different aspects of news:
- Andrew Grave (business information)
- Anja Thygesen (industry information)
- Chris Porter (company information)
- Eileen Steer (financial information)
- Shimrit Janes (collaborative technologies).
Our director of research, Robin Neidorf, interviewed the co-producers and asked them for their perspective on what the series will bring to information professionals.
FreePint's Original Research
One of the first pieces of research in this series is our survey on private company information. This original research will look at preferred sources, perceptions and unmet needs in researching private companies. Our survey is open until 21st of October, please do participate and you will receive a copy of the final report as a thank you.
We will also soon launch our our 8th annual "FreePint Survey: News Needs and Preferences".
Must-Have Financial Sources
In the financial field Bloomberg is often upheld as an essential source. Eileen Steer interviewed FreePint Subscribers and other Bloomberg end-users and information professionals to find out whether a standalone terminal still has a place in the information armoury, and whether organisations are getting sufficient value from it to justify the price.
Meanwhile Catherine Pask looked into another news staple, well-loved by those in the finance field: Factiva. In an interview with the general manager, Brian Gelinas, she found out how users access Factiva's 32,000 sources via mobile device, the enhancements recently made to the alerts, and why the corporate newsletter function is so popular.
