Content (Articles, Reports, Webinars)
As we wrap up the Topic Series "All About Usage", we've published:
- "An Introduction to Digital Rights Management (DRM)" which explains why DRM solutions are used, the problems and benefits of using them, key providers and what to think about when selecting a DRM solution vendor
- An insightful piece on high-level training within Bain & Company's Information Service in "Rethinking Information Training at Bain & Company", which reflects its changing priorities. This covers how to strategically approach information needs and work with high-level concepts like usage restriction. The article offers useful advice to information services groups that are revising their training programmes.
For an efficient overview of all the reports and articles from the Topic Series you can take a look at the category page. But if you're short on time you can register for the 20 minute upcoming Webinar, "What We Learned about Usage", running in November.
We've also launched the next Topic Series, "News, and Other Commodities", which looks at the concept of "value" when applied to news, company and people information.
If your organisation needs help with sourcing, justifying and managing this sort of commodity-like content, this Topic Series will help you define and refine the criteria by which you, your stakeholders and suppliers can best serve staff while managing costs and risks.
With a wide range of product reviews, Q&As and additional research projects planned, make sure you register to get notifications.
Finally, we've also published the following reports since the last Subscription Update:
- Product Review of PatentAdvisor
- Product Review of EndNote
- Product Review of RefME
- Product Review of Thomson Reuters Regulatory Intelligence
- Mini Review of TIBCO Spotfire 7
Don't miss the upcoming webinar "Recommit to Risk Management: A Strategic Value Information Practitioners Can Deliver" on 8th October.
Community
It's not too late to register for FreePint's in-person Communities of Practice session, "Understanding Usage - Buyers and Sellers Seeking Alignment". This CoP offers an unmatched opportunity for buyers and sellers to better understand each other's perspectives and plans.
Sessions in New York and London in October and November. More information and registration.
Consulting
Two Consulting-level customers have each recently had custom workshops on understanding stakeholders and their perceptions of the value of information services, with very different results.
In one organisation:
- The expertise of information staff is generally respected; the main challenge for the staff is to continue to raise awareness as deeply as they can within the organisation, so that they are brought into projects earlier.
In the other organisation:
- A recent reorganisation has moved information services to a new part of the business, and internal political upheaval has shifted previous loyalties; the main challenge for the staff is to better understand their new stakeholder environment and better articulate how their expertise can be best leveraged in the new organisation.
Workshop outcomes include detailed recommendations, project plans and future "check-in" dates to make progress on goals. If you'd like to know more about a custom workshop on value, contact our director of research, Robin Neidorf, robin.neidorf@freepint.com.
Our Content is the broad platform through which we publish research-based insights. Community provides the environment to discuss them with peers. Consulting tailors the insight to your needs. Find the right FreePint Subscription level to meet your needs.
