Abstract
Westlaw UK is designed to be a one-stop-shop aimed at lawyers and information professionals, but useful for anyone with an interest in the law. Scott Vine carried out a recent review for FreePint and Sophie Alexander finds out from him what makes this product so unique and why it's the go-to solution for so many of the UK's top law firms.

Scott Vine recently reviewed the online legal service Westlaw UK, one of Thomson Reuters' legal and business products, to assess its coverage of primary and secondary legal resources which includes case law reports, full text journals, EU information, news and Insight articles.
With over 20 years of experience in the library and information sector, and currently working as senior information officer for a leading law firm, Scott is well placed to review this web-based legal service.
Read Scott's comprehensive product review (subscriber content), to learn more about Westlaw UK's content which is organised around seven categories including:
- Insight
- Cases
- Legislation
- Journals
- Current awareness
- EU
- Books
- News.
In addition to the wide range of content, Scott particularly liked the case and legislation analysis documents and found them excellent resources for quickly allowing you to get an overview of a case or piece of legislation, as well as saving time searching for related primary and secondary law resources.
Westlaw UK's unique selling point is that it's the only provider of consolidated UK-wide legislation allowing subscribers to set their default view depending on their location in the UK, so they only see the law that affects them.
Some of the other featured highlights which you can read about in the review include:
- Case and legislation status icons
- Case & legislation analysis documents
- Case alert functionality
- Self-service website
- Graphical case history.
You can also read about future plans for the product involving the integration of content from Lawtel and Practical Law.
Whether you're looking for an individual or enterprise-wide subscription, Scott says, "With good integration and interlinking between all of the platform sources, Westlaw UK offers a very compelling case for being the go-to product for your one-stop legal information requirements."
FreePint has also been reviewing legal mobile apps and Scott included Westlaw UK's app in his review.
