Abstract
Sharing content, data licensing and authentication are challenging for information managers in the legal sector. Candace Cathey looks at how these issues, plus accessing information in new ways through ebooks and apps are covered in recent FreePint articles and events.
Item
Content, Data Mining and Technological Developments
Knowledge professionals in the legal sector have seen a growth in emerging technologies such as content management systems and data mining in organisations. They are trying to figure out how to share those resources through text and data mining without violating licensing rights.
FreePint's Topic Series, "All About Usage" is looking at those challenges through articles, reviews and original research.
The RightFind XML for Mining - a Q&A with Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) discusses how text mining software is developing. The Q&A with Manzama - Predicting Future Performance looks at how predictive analytics are being used in content management and current awareness.
Authentication and Access
There is an increased demand to access information and vendors are doing their best to develop products and services to meet those needs. However, there is the hurdle of authentication of delivering information to the end user. Information managers are struggling to figure out ways to manoeuvre through security breaches, legal compliance and IT for access.
The FreePint Report: Research into Authentication 2015 is now available and tackles approaches, priorities and what's needed, based on feedback from information managers across a range of sectors, including legal.
Accessing information in new ways through ebooks and apps is also of particular interest to those in the legal sector, and FreePint's Ebook Research 2015, Mini Review of Thomson Reuters ProView and Mini Review of HeinOnline App are just some of the recent items focusing on these issues.
