Content (Articles, Reports, Webinars)

About a year ago, we asked customers if they still used the monthly Subscription Update for Information Management, our monthly PDF report pulling together product reviews and key tips articles relating to management of information services.

Somewhat to our surprise, they reported they like this packaging of content - handy for reading whilst commuting or otherwise off the network. The latest issue has been published - download it here, and enjoy on the train.

The current Topic Series, "All About Usage", continues its broad review of the opportunities and challenges inherent in the ways today's workers interact with information and organisations derive value from it:

  • We're soon to launch a new survey in this series to examine corporate policies around use of web content. Watch for the blog item announcing it shortly, and then take a few minutes to complete the survey. As always, those who provide an email address with their survey submission will receive a copy of the resulting report.
  • This is not the only research project included in this series: we recently closed the survey on authentication and will be publishing results shortly.

If authentication is an area of interest, don't miss the upcoming FreePint Webinar "Authentication Primer", taking place 10th September.

Usage-related challenges often circle around commercial terms rather than technology. Nowhere is this more evident than in the growing arena of text and data mining. We've published a basic introduction to the commercial challenges on text mining - not to be mistaken for legal advice, but certainly a starting point for making sure you're thinking about the right variables affecting your organisation's interest this technology.

We've been heavily in research-mode on product reviews recently, which means you can look forward to a banner crop of new reviews in the next few months. In various stages of the pipeline are these:

  • Mini Reviews: Accelus Regulatory Intelligence, Bloomberg mobile app, Nexis News app, OneLog, TIBCO Spotfire
  • Full Reviews: Attensa, CCC RightFind XML for Mining, EditorEye, EndNote, First Research, LexisNexis PatentAdvisor, Questel Orbit, Thomson ProView (ebooks eReader), Westlaw UK

Community

Connecting members of the information community with each other and the great ideas emerging all around is one of the great benefits of our Community-level of service.

Often these events are restricted to buyers only, but we have a few opportunities coming up to bring buyers and sellers together for meaningful discussion on topics of mutual interest:

  • First in September, we have a teleconference Communities of Practice session on "The Challenges of Authentication". We'll be discussing the results of FreePint's research on the subject, but more importantly facilitating discussion amongst information buyers and information vendors about this thorny challenge. Seats for these sessions are limited, so register today.
  • Then, in October and November, we'll be running in-person sessions for both buyers and vendors in New York and London. Exact dates and locations are still TBD, but the themes of these meetings will be around how "usage" is changing in today's (and tomorrow's) organisations. Watch for further announcements.

Consulting

With our Topic Series, "Best Practices in Information Skills Development" recently concluded, we've run the webinar on "What We Learned" (login on the webinar description page for access to the recording). Several Consulting-level customers have used this to launch internal strategic discussions about their objectives for skills development, with FreePint guiding and facilitating those discussions.

Another consulting discussion has emerged from the webinar, "Setting Strategy with FreePint Research" (recording available from login here). We're taking a close look with a handful of customers at how our areas of focus align with theirs.

Our Content is the broad platform through which we publish research-based insights. Community provides the environment to discuss them with peers. Consulting tailors the insight to your needs. Find the right FreePint Subscription level to meet your needs.
