FreePint for Vendors
Jinfo Blog
3rd August 2015
Abstract
FreePint is an important resource for both buyers and sellers of information. Robin Neidorf, FreePint's director of research, highlights recent product reviews, research, webinars, Community of Practice sessions and consulting in areas from ebooks to skills, authentication, visualisation and legal mobile apps.
Item
A key role FreePint takes seriously is our ability to connect buyers and sellers of information products and services. Both sides of commercial relationships want successful interactions, and FreePint's ability to "translate" intentions and foster productive discussions helps make that happen.
Product Reviews
Our recent product reviews offer competitive and market insights for:
- The legal industry and regarding mobile tools (two mini-reviews on mobile tools - Lexis Advance HD and Fastcase HD, with several more in this collection on the way)
- The news industry (comparative report on providers of news content, and our annual focus on news is coming in the next Topic Series)
- Aggregation platforms (review of Manzama, review of Solcara, review of Linex Systems, and one on Attensa coming shortly)
Information Skills
The recently completed Topic Series, "Best Practices in Information Skills Development", generated strong interest from vendors, who naturally have a vested interest in contributing to skill development. Of particular interest were:
- Our original research on training resources in organisations
- Guidance on improved distance learning
- Tips for enhanced use of video
- An overview of available resources from industry partners.
Direct Connections
Buyers will often share with FreePint's researchers and analysts comments they wouldn't necessarily bring directly to their vendors and suppliers. Sometimes, however, both parties benefit from direct interaction.
That was part of the intent behind featuring speakers from Elsevier and Springer in a recent webinar, "Corporate Market for Ebooks: A Look at the Research" (recording available to Subscribers from logging in here). Our research published earlier in 2015 highlighted a number of questions about pricing, licensing and strategy to address the corporate market that only vendors could answer; featuring Elsevier and Springer as part of the webinar session, to interact directly with corporate buyers of content products, added significantly to everyone's understanding of our shared goals around the ebook format.
All About Usage
We're planning other events for buyers and sellers to talk directly with each other: Our Communities of Practice session, "Tackling the Authentication Challenge" (teleconference, September), will bring both sides together, as will in-person CoPs we're scheduling for New York in October and London in November.
These events are all part of our current Topic Series, "All About Usage: From Content Sharing to Data Mining" - a critical subject for vendors to understand from the buying organisation's perspective.
Unique Insights through Consulting
At the same time, we regularly work directly with vendors to provide them with unique insights. Current consulting projects include research on the UK market for legal purchasing, a survey on interest in and uptake of visualisation tools, and facilitation of customer roundtable discussions.
