The FreePint Topic Series "All About Usage" launches in July. We asked the co-producers of the series for their views on how the series will bring information managers new insights into data and information usage.
Articles, reviews and webinars on subjects from content sharing to data mining will help ensure information managers remain a key part of developing their organisation's usage strategy.
FreePint: What's your background?
Andrew Lucas: I have been engaged with business information for almost my entire career, which is rather longer than I care to say. I have had both editorial and commercial roles at Reuters, Factiva and Dow Jones as well as carrying out consulting engagements with companies such as LexisNexis.
Over that period I have seen the evolution of the information industry from the days of CD-ROMs and dial-up to the web and the emergence of social media, and witnessed how the uses of data and information have changed.
Anja Chemnitz Thygesen: I have a background as a researcher in management consulting and over the years have been through many discussions with established companies about use of information.
As an independent information professional since 2012 I have experienced for myself other problems and challenges when it comes to usage and sharing. I try to be pragmatic in my use of data and also try to give feedback to data providers regarding their terms and usability.
FreePint: What will the series bring to readers?
Andrew Lucas: The FreePint Topic Series "All About Usage" will provide thoughtful commentary and practical insights for information managers on meeting end users’ expectations as to how they use content and data whilst controlling both the risks and the costs to their organisation.
We hope that readers of the Topic Series will find it thought-provoking and will help them to formulate their organisational approach to issues such as content sharing, data integration, text mining and big data.
Anja Chemnitz Thygesen: When commissioning articles and identifying which issues and technologies will be of most interest to readers I am drawing on some of my own experience when it comes to using data and information.
I have been following the information industry for many years and have seen the enormous changes it has experienced, not least from a usability point of view. Looking back at the development often gives us an idea of what the future may bring.
In the FreePint Topic Series "All About Usage", readers will achieve greater clarity through a series of blog posts, articles, reviews, webinars and Q&As with suppliers at the forefront of data and information usage.
