Content (Articles, Reports and Webinars)
We're in the final month of the FreePint Topic Series, "Making Information Visible", which makes for a wide range of content relating to the various aspects of visibility and discovery:
- Vendor coverage: Q&As with InfoDesk, EBSCO and Lucidworks, plus a mini review of Tableau Desktop
- Practical expertise: practitioner tips and insights on blending internal and external content, encouraging active rather than passive viewing, and leveraging internal social tools to improve visibility.
We've also run three webinars, the recordings of which are available to FreePint Subscribers:
- User Behaviour and Visibility
- Case Studies - Applying Technology to Visibility
- Beautiful Information is Visible Information.
Access recordings by logging in on the description page for your choice of session(s).
Other product reviews recently released include AdisInsight from Springer and PatBase from Minesoft.
Meanwhile, regular contributor Chris Porter continues his exploration of the dynamic world of social media monitoring with an analysis of current market trends, and a Q&A with Cision about its acquisition of Visible Technologies.
Finally, we have a unique contribution to our collection in an article on researching Brazil - although we haven't had as many questions in recent months about BRIC countries as in the past, view counts on this item suggest that expertise on researching this area of Latin America is hard to come by.
Community
We ran a Communities of Practice (CoP) session on "Needs Assessment for Information Visibility", providing an opportunity to dig into the variables around technology, content and user behaviour that make information more or less visible to end users.
The same session will be offered in-person in Minneapolis in April. If you'd like this session in your city, contact our Director of Research, Robin Neidorf: robin.neidorf@freepint.com.
Later in April and May, we're continuing our successful CoPs for information managers in specific industries:
- Those in "tangible goods" are welcome to register for a teleconference on 7th April
- Those in professional services for a teleconference on 5th May.
Consulting
Mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, significant changes in leadership... all of these can create major changes in an information centre's strategy. We are currently working on two consulting projects to help information managers turn these times of change into strategic opportunities:
- In one case, our customer has undergone a reorganisation and now reports into a different chain of command in the business, with new priorities and a shift in objectives. Our work is to help the information staff research and understand their new stakeholders, articulate their mission statement in line with their objectives, and create a communication and education plan over the next six months.
- In another case, a recent merger offers the information centre a chance to expand its influence across a much larger organisation... but first the staff need to better understand the assets available within the merged entity and integrate two cultures around data and information.
As always, our approach to consulting is based on research and coaching: we support the customer with existing and original research, and provide regular coaching to build their capacity while keeping them on track.
Find out more about a FreePint Subscription, which at the Content level gives access to all FreePint articles, reports and webinars, at the Community level gives access to all FreePint Communities of Practice (as well as all FreePint Content), and at the Consulting level adds a credit for up to six hours of annual consulting time.
