Subscription Update - What's New and What's Coming
Jinfo Blog
4th March 2015
Abstract
We look at what's new and upcoming in FreePint's Content, Community, and Consulting - including recent product reviews in the scientific and technical field, and Q&A with vendors as part of our Topic Series, "Making Information Visible". FreePint's upcoming Community of Practice events include sessions on "needs assessment for information visibility" and a session for information managers in tangible goods industries in April. Consulting projects include focus on document delivery and digital rights management.
Item
Content (Articles, Reports and Webinars)
We've made a concerted effort to increase our coverage of scientific and technical resources, and recent product reviews are the result:
- AdisInsight, a resource from Springer, is in review now, with chapters on the drugs module, safety module, the underlying technology, and some value comparisons already live
- Minesoft PatBase is under review, with the introduction and "sources" sections live.
In development for future publication are reviews of Mendeley, FirstWord Pharma, PharmaVentures, ProQuest Dialog, and MedMeme, among others. (If you have a request for a product we should consider for review, please contact us.)
Other subjects covered recently include crowdsourcing financial information, social monitoring via Commetric and the latest changes in the Factiva dataset.
But the bulk of our editorial attention is currently tuned to the Topic Series, "Making Information Visible", which has just entered its final month.
We've produced:
- A Q&A with Acquire Media, plus a mini review of the visualisation features in its NewsEdge product
- A Q&A with Reprints Desk
- A webinar on user behaviour and visibility.
Upcoming webinars include Case Studies - Applying Technology to Visibility and Beautiful Information is Visible Information, both coming in March.
If you haven't yet done so, register your interest in "Making Information Visible" to stay informed about all resources as they become available.
Community
Also within the "Making Information Visible" Topic Series, is a Communities of Practice (CoP) teleconference session on "Needs Assessment for Information Visibility". The first session is already full, but there are seats available in the second session. We'll schedule additional sessions based on demand.
We're offering Communities of Practice sessions for specific industries, to provide information managers with a forum in which they can discuss and work on issues unique to their industry. Past sessions have brought together information managers in banking and government. In April, we're running a session for information managers in industries related to tangible goods: manufacturing, agriculture, hardware, etc.
Consulting
Several Consulting-level customers are participating in the upcoming CoP to conduct the needs assessment for visibility, and we'll follow up that session with one-on-one development of projects that address the needs highlighted through that process.
Another customer recently contacted us with an urgent request for information about document delivery services and digital rights management. We've been able to support them with a short list of suppliers, background information on each from our Subscription content, and peer review of their RFP to kick-start a search process.
The time involved for each of these projects is under three hours - easily managed within the six-hour credit Consulting customers get with each year's FreePint Subscription.
Find out more about a FreePint Subscription, which at the Content level gives access to all FreePint articles, reports and webinars, at the Community level gives access to all FreePint Communities of Practice (as well as all FreePint Content), and at the Consulting level adds a credit for up to six hours of annual consulting time.
