Abstract

We highlight recent items of interest to information professionals in banking and finance from FreePint's Content, Community and Consulting, from recent reviews on products in the company information and compliance sphere, to webinars around information visibility. Consulting projects include how to recognise and leverage information professionals' valuable expertise within the organisation.

Item

Content (Articles, Reports and Webinars)

It's a constant challenge to stay up-to-date with new sources on the market, as well as the latest enhancements to existing sources, to keep information services in banks and financial institutions humming.

Recent FreePint content that keeps you in front of that challenge includes:

If you need to refresh your awareness around regulatory compliance, particularly with regard to Know Your Customer regulations, be sure to download the comprehensive Topic Series report from our summer focus on "Know Your Customer". This report includes all the articles published as part of that series and serves as a useful reference for the most recent updates to sources, technology and value affecting KYC.

Similarly, if news content is of interest, whether for in-depth research or helping staff maintain current awareness, the comprehensive report from the Topic Series, "News, and Beyond" is a must-have.

The current Topic Series, "Making Information Visible", is giving information managers plenty of fresh ideas about the combination of technology, content and user behaviour that enable users to access and make the most of valuable information at work. If you haven't yet done so, register your interest in this series, and be sure to register for or send a colleague to the upcoming webinars in that series:

Community

FreePint ran a special in-person Communities of Practice session for information managers in London investment banks earlier in February. This session focused on the results of a benchmarking exercise these information managers had asked FreePint to conduct, to document which core products were implemented at the desktop level or within the information services department.

Our far-reaching discussion went far beyond the nuts-and-bolts of counting users and seats, however, and touched on areas such as increasing competitiveness amongst providers of financial information. You can read more about the discussion and next steps here.

Additional industry-focused CoP sessions are being planned for 2015.

Consulting

One US-based financial institution made great use of some of its annual six-hour credit for consulting services by inviting FreePint to conduct a training webinar for information professionals in November 2014.

Over 50 information professionals participated in the session, which focused on helping them recognise, articulate, and leverage their expertise on sources to stakeholders within their institutions. Information professionals so often forget how expert they truly are about the details of sources and content; this session provided guidance and tips on incorporating visibility around their expertise, to help them build their profile and value with stakeholders.

FreePint Subscription at the Content level gives access to all FreePint articles, reports and webinars, at the Community level gives access to all FreePint Communities of Practice (as well as all FreePint Content), and at the Consulting level adds a credit for up to six hours of annual consulting time. Find out more.
