Item
Content (Articles, Reports and Webinars)
The final report in the Topic Series "News, and Beyond" was published recently: an in-depth review of LexisNexis Publisher. You can view all content published in the Series, and can purchase access to the Series content if your organisation does not yet have a FreePint Subscription.
Hundreds of readers have already registered their interest in the new Topic Series "Making Information Visible", which runs from January through March. The first items in this series include:
- Our definition of "What is Visibility?" (and our invitation to participate in our survey about the topic)
- Discussion of user engagement to drive information visibility
- Tips for proper use of enterprise content management to make internal content more visible.
Co-producers Martin White and James Mullan have helped us develop a robust calendar of resources, including reviews of technology products like Linex and Attensa; discussion of the role of analytics and visualisation tools to make information more visible; guidance on the different types of visibility and how to manage them; and managing the challenges that arise when content, technology and user behaviour are not quite in sync.
Register for "Making Information Visible", if you haven't already.
We've also recently announced one of the three webinars in this Series: User Behaviour and Visibility (read more and register).
Community
The Communities of Practice session "Needs Assessment for Information Visibility" (part of the "Making Information Visible" Topic Series) is a 90-minute teleconference, scheduled for March.
We will walk through how to prioritise amongst the needs of technology, content and user behaviour, conduct a needs assessment and craft an action plan to improve visibility. Learn more and register today.
In the meantime, we're wrapping up work on a benchmarking project for investment banks, comparing the content portfolios on core areas of finance, deals, company information and news:
- As part of this project, we're holding a meeting in London in early February for the participating banks, to discuss the results and their implications around budget management and vendor relations
- In addition to the participants, this CoP session is open to information managers at financial institutions with a Community-level subscription and higher. Learn more and register.
Further to our recent announcement about a teleconference CoP for information managers in government agencies, we've now added the next of these industry-focused sessions to the calendar, for information managers in organisations that deal in tangible goods:
- In contrast with our customers in "intangible" businesses like banking, professional services and law, we see information managers in tangible goods organisations facing a common set of challenges around stakeholder engagement and communication
- This session will provide a unique opportunity to brainstorm solutions around these challenges. Learn more and register.
Consulting
Director of research Robin Neidorf attended a meeting recently with a new Consulting customer, to brainstorm with the information centre staff about priorities for 2015. The main purpose of the meeting was to determine the most effective and productive way to use their annual credit of 6 hours of one-on-one time.
Based on the discussion, a uniquely valuable project is now in development:
- The information centre has had an in-house IT staff member, to support implementations and troubleshooting relating to information products and services. However, this organisation's IT function is in the process of becoming fully centralised, and this staff member will be transferred to the central service.
- Already, in the early stages of the transition, it's become more difficult for the information centre to get its needs met, and the staff are concerned that, in the words of one, "Our IT needs are getting more specific, while our IT resources are becoming more generic."
We're now investigating a project to create a strategic plan around what the information centre's full IT requirements are and will be into the future, and then articulate the business case for the right configuration and level of support to fulfill the organisation's goals. Success of this project will demand external research, evaluation of product and user trends, and identification of stakeholder characteristics.
Find out more about a FreePint Subscription, which at the Content level gives access to all FreePint articles, reports and webinars, at the Community level gives access to all FreePint Communities of Practice (as well as all FreePint Content), and at the Consulting level adds a credit for up to six hours of annual consulting time.
