Content (Articles, Reports and Webinars)
We recently concluded the FreePint Topic Series: Next-Generation Competitive Intelligence. Read producer Mary Ellen Bercik's final comments, and if you haven't yet, register to receive the FreePint Report: Buyer's Guide for Competitive Intelligence, including several of our premium articles from the series.
Amongst the final elements of that series was the FreePint Report: Product Review of Comintelli Knowledge XChanger. Our reviewer particularly liked the tool's ability to support workers in all three critical phases of CI: gathering content, analysing results and communicating insights.
If your intelligence needs are focused on the technology sector, you might consider recently-reviewed StrategyEye Digital Media; our reviewer notes that the depth of content on this specific sector is hard to match by generalist products like Factiva or Mergermarket.
Or are you focused on the drug pipeline? Then Cortellis might be the intelligence tool for you. The chapters of this review have just started to appear in FreePint (introduction here).
The burgeoning list of industry-specific intelligence tools presents a challenge for information managers tasked with managing a tight budget against the global needs of an organisation. We support your efforts to manage globally whilst attending to the details of a particular product with the following:
- First, check out guidance on conducting a needs assessment to support product evaluations. Author Perrin Kerravala is a librarian for Export Development Canada and one of our favourite analysts to work with on product reviews; she shares her insights from her work in the field as well as reviewing for FreePint.
- Second, the most recent FreePint Webinar, "Strategic View on Value and Collection Management" helped participants establish a framework for understanding what their organisations value and therefore where they should focus their content investments. If you missed the live session, you can request access to the recording here.
Community
Understanding, discussing and measuring value permeates FreePint's Community-level offerings as well as Content.
In June we began an encore offering of a set of three Community of Practice (CoP) calls examining different components of value - first stakeholders, then metrics. The third in the set of calls, on long-term relationships and communication of value, will take place later this month. Learn more and register here.
The same content will be offered twice in August in a live workshop format, first in New York, and then near Boston. And in October, you can participate in the same session on value in Amsterdam.
In the meantime, we're starting to build out the CoP schedule for the autumn FreePint Topic Series: News, and Beyond. Initial plans include in-person sessions in London and New York, as well as teleconference sessions throughout the series. We'll be looking at approaches to in-depth research versus general awareness needs, and what happens when a large enterprise moves from one key supplier to another.
Consulting
Not surprisingly, "value" permeates our work with Consulting-level customers as well. Several organisations have opted to use their consulting credits for bespoke versions of our workshop on value, adapting and adopting the concepts to their specific needs and tapping into ongoing coaching opportunities for additional support through a project.
Our research demonstrates the necessity of placing information services and strategy at the heart of today's business; the feedback and interactions we have with customers who use our content, participate in Community of Practice sessions and secure consulting services tell us that this shift in perspective is both necessary and transformational.
Editor's Note
Find out more about a FreePint Subscription, which at the Content level gives access to all FreePint articles, reports and webinars, at the Community level gives access to all FreePint Communities of Practice (as well as all FreePint Content), and at the Consulting level adds a credit for up to six hours of annual consulting time.
