FT Newslines - Bringing Current Affairs into the Curriculum

Abstract
FT Newslines offers a "virtual classroom" allowing students and professors to annotate articles from the Financial Times (FT), submit comments and share them with their own class and other schools. Sophie Alexander finds out how the tool makes it easy to incorporate FT content into the curriculum.
Item
Used by some of the world's top universities and business schools, FT Newslines offers a practical way for academic staff to bring current affairs into the curriculum by linking theory and practice.
Annotations
The digital learning tool allows students and professors to annotate articles from the Financial Times' ft.com, submit comments and share them with their own class and other schools. Professors and students from any school can read and vote for annotations which can be made public, just for their class or private.
Clipping and Sharing
The annotation functionality allows students and faculty to set up a clippings list to store links to relevant FT articles for future reference and filter information using their tagging system, creating different categories for each class or subject. Articles of interest and comments can be shared with the class via RSS feeds and email alerts.
Streaming & Social Media
Articles can also be streamed directly via social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and accessed via mobile phone or tablet. This saves time as students don't have to constantly log into their FT Newslines dashboard.
Ideal for MBA Students
Because the Financial Times is essential reading for MBA students, FT Newslines offers them a great way to keep on top of the vast amount of news they have to read as well as offering a way for professors to raise their profile.
FT Newslines is a simple to use but powerful and useful tool and engages students in an online setting, creating a "virtual classroom."
