Social Enterprise: Technology is Important but Don't Forget the Users

Abstract
The FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise has already included a wide variety of articles on how you can make your enterprise more social. One theme that has tied all of these articles together is that there will always be technology involved - and the latest articles have looked closely at some of these technologies. However, it's important to remember that technology is only an enabler; at the heart of any social implementation will be the users and this will be discussed in many of the future articles on the social enterprise.

Whilst there are social technologies being launched on a regular basis, a technology that has been around for a while is the corporate intranet.
Intranets - the Backbone of a Social Enterprise?
In a recent article I look at what we can expect from intranets in 2014.
The corporate intranet has been around for a long time, but it is increasingly being used as the backbone upon which all other social enterprise activities take place. In my article I look at some of the developments we can expect from intranets in 2014.
Implementing SharePoint Successfully
In my article "Is There Really an Alternative to SharePoint?", I looked at whether there really are choices for those organisations that are looking for an enterprise content management tool. Whilst the allure of SharePoint is obvious, for many organisations it can prove too complex and require too much administration and development for them.
For those organisations that have chosen to use SharePoint, one of the most important considerations is how much work you want to do with the social elements of SharePoint. In an article coming up later in the FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise, Sarah Dillingham will look at how the social elements in SharePoint 2013 can be implemented successfully.
What New Technologies are on the Horizon?
The FreePint Topic Series: The Social Enterprise will also consider which new, but less well known, technologies are available for organisations. The social computing market is a busy and active one and sometimes it can be hard to know what the next best tool is going to be.
In our Q&As with vendors we'll look at some of the upcoming tools and how organisations can take advantage of them.
