James Mullan examines the many reasons why client-facing systems haven't yet taken off in the legal sector - from lack of client interest to concerns about security and privacy. Perhaps legal firms could use systems which yield big data findings to improve future litigation outcomes...

In many cases queries from employees may simply be unanswerable if there's no valid data management process. This story has profound big data implications given the challenge of transforming raw (and sometimes unnecessary datasets) into meaningful information.
