Busy Wrap-Up, Busy New Year
Jinfo Blog

Abstract
The final two reports published in 2012 provide original insight into both buyer needs and market players for news content. New FreePint Articles highlight significant M&A activity, tips on data discovery and unique value of unexpected tools. And coming in January are new formats for product reviews and the opportunity to join a curriculum-based Community of Practice on Mobile Deployment.

The close of 2012 brought two reports on FreePint research projects relating to news content: We published the latest results of our annual Survey on News Needs and Preferences as well as our Comparative Report on News Products. As much as we see rapid change in the industry -- almost on a monthly basis -- the importance of the news category in figuring out what matters in the corporate content portfolio doesn't seem to fade.
Another evergreen topic recently featured is that of data discovery. Contributor Jonathan Jacobsen shares the where, why and how of diving into disparate datasets efficiently and effectively.
Other recent articles that have caught my eye include coverage of Thomson Reuters' acquisition of The PLC (requires paid FreePint Subscription), a move which is sure to cause significant upheaval in the market for core legal content, particularly for UK law firms; and new research that documents the research value of Wikipedia, of all things (requires paid FreePint Subscription). No, really.
We've got a number of exciting new developments to share later this month, including a series of 20 mini-reviews on products named as finalists in the CODiE awards of excellence by the Software and Information Industry Association, and a Community of Practice on Mobile Deployment of Content for information managers facing the challenges of meeting their users' (and executives') demand to unlock content from the desktop. As with all reviews, our mini-reviews are included in the FreePint Subscription. The CoP on Mobile Deployment guiding participants through an interactive curriculum as well as bring them together for peer-to-peer learning will be available only to companies with a FreePint Subscription.
