While some news aggregators such as Meltwater have been making the headlines with their battles against the UK’s NLA, others like Moreover have decided to work with the major publishers.

In June this year Moreover joined the NLA’s eClips service, enabling them to provide their customers with content from newspapers with online paywalls, such as The Times. This, they argue, avoids the need to scrape the web for this particular content and offers their customers a more direct and therefore quicker service.

As reported earlier this month Meltwater, with its acquisition of Ice Rocket, is moving more towards social media monitoring, an area of news coverage that Moreover is particularly strong in.

To maintain its competitive advantage Moreover has now decided to repackage its award winning Newsdesk monitoring service, reviewed for VIP magazine at the end of last year. It recently launched  three different versions of the Newsdesk product to serve a range of end users and provide facilities that make information more relevant to companies.

According to the Moreover press release, Newsdesk 4 has been”streamlined” and renamed Newsdesk Alert. The alert service is at $1,995 a year billed as the affordable Newsdesk package. As the name implies, it is focused on breaking news from business and consumer news sources and social media sites, and is accessed via a customisable dashboard.

Newsdesk Corporate includes access to premium print publications – including presumably to articles behind the aforementioned paywalls – a customisable newsletter, as well as analytics and charting facilities. This package acts as a workflow tool in that the service can be integrated into companies’ business intelligence tools.

Newsdesk Enterprise is Newsdesk Corporate plus a range of features such as media analysis reports, branding tools and enterprise-grade security. Subscription costs for the latter two Newsdesk products are not advertised, however the Moreover site is offering a two-week free trial.
