After spending many months acquiring business information companies, such as compliance database Complinet, Thomson Reuters is now focusing on organising these into products that fit into customers’ workflow solutions.
Last week, the company announced the launch of Accelus, a suite of products which combines Thomson Reuters’ databases dealing with governance, risk and compliance content (GRC). Accelus essentially acts as a portal for all relevant Thomson Reuters databases, including Complinet, Westlaw, Capitol Watch, Paisley and EDGAR filings. In addition, the site contains news, events, white papers and resources intended to provide users with a comprehensive GRC solution.
According to the press release , the new GRC tool connects “business strategy, operations and transactions to the ever changing regulatory environment” and empowers “customers to accelerate while managing business risk”.
The launch of Accelus is well-timed: as LiveWire has been reporting for many months, constantly changing regulatory requirements, such as the new UK Bribery Act, can be difficult to keep up with and require access to a range of different types of information for a complete picture. In addition, end users needing to keep up-to-date with compliance issues work in a variety of functions and often access different types of information sources. A tool that combines sources dealing with business law, regulatory intelligence, disclosure, training and due diligence will no doubt be welcomed by information professionals, risk managers, lawyers and compliance officers alike.
By the looks of things, Accelus will be a strong competitor to Lexis Nexis’ Compliance Manager, and its revamped Due Diligence Solution product mentioned in LiveWire earlier this month.
Wolters Kluwer, too, another competitor in the GRC arena with its Financial & Compliance Services, will be keeping a keen eye on Accelus and its development.
