I recently reviewed PI Navigator, (http://www.pi-navigator.com) a global financial information product published by Perfect Information (http://www.perfectinfo.com) for VIP Issue No. 87.
The product has a number of unique, and I think impressive, features that allow company analysis and financial modelling to be done efficiently, reliably and quickly. I was especially taken by a couple of features that allow users to move almost seamlessly from one document to another with the click of the mouse, and not get lost in the process!
PI Navigator was developed in 2008 to "revolutionise the workflow of corporate finance teams when using financial documents." I do certainly see the advantages that this interface offers both in terms of reliability of data and time.
Audience: PI Navigator’s primary audiences are investment bankers, brokerage firms, consultancies, professional services and law firms. They currently serve over 100 investment banks and the majority of the top 75 global law firms and have over 60,000 subscription users throughout the world.
Coverage: PI Navigator contains over 14 million financial documents ranging from Annual Reports, Shareholder Circulars, Bond prospectuses, IPOs and M&A documents for over 46,000 companies. Geographical coverage is broad and includes UK, US, Europe, Asia (including Japan, China, Australia and Hong Kong), Latin America, South Africa and the Middle East. The product covers 44 major industry sectors.
Searching: The search functions are flexible and based on broad categories, however, I did find the search interface to be a bit unintuitive at times and caused some confusion as to ‘
"what to do next" especially when needing to edit a search. I would have liked to see more help and direction on searching, potentially in their tutorials. On the positive side, Favourite Searches can be saved and set as email alerts or just notifications for the next time the user logs in.
Features: Back to reliability and time saving features: a user can navigate directly from annual reports, to financials, to notes with just one click. Reports are available in various formats including PDF Navigator (PDF with hyperlinks), Excel and Word and financial tables can be downloaded directly into Excel either from one report at a time or from multiple reports. There is no need to rekey data. Users can also share documents via email without the recipient needing to have a lo-in or password. This eliminates the need to send large files as attachments that could be blocked by firewalls.
