It is designed to be a rich digital resource for understanding 200 years of history from the time of Cardinal Wolsey to the Age of Enlightenment. Gales seeks to provide via State Papers Online almost 3 million pages of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and parliamentary drafts from civil servants and provincial administrators, and intelligence reports from foreign ambassadors. The collection offers a vivid portrait of the British monarchy, internal strife, and religious conflict, as well as details of daily life and events across every level of society. Part I is due for release in November 2008, followed by Part II in March 2009. An edition for more general use will be introduced when the full project is finished in 2011.
