The Times Publishing Company http://www.sptimes.com has sold CQ Press http://www.cqpress.com to SAGE http://www.sagepublications.com. CQ Press is a college publishing and online reference information service provider, concentrating on political science and mass communications, and, as its name suggests, Congressional Quarterly. SAGE is a publisher of academic books and journals, including a number of titles in business and management. Each party expressed its pleasure in the completion of the deal. SAGE’s President and CEO, Blaise Simqu, commented on the shared mission and similar values of the two companies, stating that ‘both are driven by a passion for scholarship and innovation that impacts education and public policy’ http://www.jegi.com/CQ-sold-to-SAGE. Despite its seemingly familiar name to a European audience, the Times Publishing Company is not the London Times but is based in St. Petersburg, Florida and the divestment of CQ Press is to let the company invest in its newspaper, The St. Petersburg Times, and in its core publishing business of news and analysis on Congress, politics and public policy. We should expect to see a growth in its web publishing business. SAGE will keep CQ Press as a separate business and will retain it as a separate imprint. There are no plans to let any staff go.
